Create a logo for the annual “Biketoberfest” celebration in Daytona Beach, Florida. The event was created to draw tourists to Daytona bi-anualy in conjunction with the popular Daytona Beach Bikeweek.
Creating a logo that avoided the use of flames, skulls, eagles, and tribal decoration commonly seen in “biker” related logos and advertising.
I thought it would be fun and fresh to have a seasonal approach with my logo, thus, the bat wings, skeleton, and wheat. I did some research on vintage motorcycle graphics and posters, since Daytona Beach is a tourist destination and its motorcycle races are vintage in their own right. The style I used is derived from elements I found in posters from the 1940’s thru the 1970’s, hopefully giving it a modern retro appeal. In hindsight I would probably experiment with compositions without the bat wings.
